David's new band Point of Departure recorded a live CD at the Jazz Standard that will be released by Sunnyside Records on June 22. The band also went into various recording studios around the New York City area as part of a feature that appeared in the August 2008 issue of Stereophille Magazine.
The CD release party will be at Iridium Jazz Club on June 16.

The Cookers (Billy Harper, Eddie Henderson, Craig Handy, David Weiss, George Cables, Cecil McBee and Billy Hart) with special guest Azar Lawrence just completed recording their second CD for the French label Plus Loin.
The Cookers (Billy Harper, Eddie Henderson, Craig Handy, David Weiss, George Cables, Cecil McBee and Billy Hart) recorded their first CD for Jazz Legacy Records. Among the tunes recorded were the Billy Harper classics Capra Black and Priestess. The group also paid hommage to Freddie Hubbard recording his classic tune The Core. The CD will be released in August 2010.

The premiere of David's latest commission for The New Jazz Composers Octet "The Public Option Suite" will be at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola on November 30, 2009. Shows are at 7:30 and 9:30 pm. This commission was underwritten by the American Composers Forum with funds provided by the Jerome Foundation.
The New Jazz Composers Octet released their new CD The Turning Gate on Motema Records on October 14, 2008. The CD features two works commissioned by Chamber Music America's New Works: Creation and Presentation Program composed by David Weiss and Xavier Davis as well as new pieces from Myron Walden and Dwayne Burno. Freddie Hubbard and the New Jazz Composers Octet released a new CD entitled "On The Real Side" on June 24. The set, released by Time Square Records, consists of all Hubbard originals arranged by octet members David Weiss, Dwayne Burno and Steve Davis including reworkings of classic Hubbard tunes like Sky Dive and Up Jumped Spring and expanded versions of some his overlooked later compositions such as Lifeflight and Take it To the Ozone.
